I selected Jelly Roll Morton as my book cover. He was the self proclaimed founder of jazz however there is plenty of proof to show otherwise. He started working by playing piano in brothels before forming a group and touring in the early 1900's. The name Jelly Roll at the time was actually a derogatory term for a black women's genitalia....quite an odd name to take during the time but it reflected the vulgar lyrics he created. Eventually he was stabbed and was not treated immediately based on his race. He died from his stab wounds. I wanted to pick a musician with some shadiness and a checkered past to create a buzz as many other authors do.
